A bit of a sleep in today as we have a short drive to Florence back on the same road we took to arrive in Rome. So its a great time to catch up on journals, post cards or have a siesta.

On arrival in Florence we stopped at the Gold Corner for a demonstration on how the Florentine Gold is made and of course they tell you all about the tax back and discounts which can make for some good buying in this city.

After the Gold Corner we walk a short distance across Santa Croce Sq to the leather factory. Here they also show us how the Florentine leather is done and they explain a little about good as apposed to poor quality leather. The leather factory is called Peruzzi and is one of the biggest in Florence.

For some in Florence there is never enough shopping time so I try to give as many choices as I can today. So after time for shopping and lunch some choose to go to the hotel, some shop and some braved the cold for the walking tour of this Renaissance city.

Santa Croce basilica with the tombs of Michelangelo, Gallileo, Dante, Rossini just to name a few is the starting point on our tour today. The administrative center of Piazza Signoria with a statue of David where the original stood is our next stop. One of the nice things about this walk is that the local guides go from highlight to highlight via the tiny streets most tourists ever see.
